Costa Rica to this day is still one of my favorite places we have ever visited!!
We started the trip by flying from LAX to San Jose, Costa Rica (super easy flight). We landed later at night so we had an overnight in San Jose. I actually really liked our hotel, I could have stayed there longer.
The next morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast before we made our way to Tortuguero. In order to get to our lodge we had to take a river boat on the freshwater canal. This experience was incredible because you are now going through the rain forest and seeing tons of monkeys and birds. While here we went on a few canal safaris (trying to spot jaguars, manatees, different species of moneys and toucans), explored the village of Tortuguero, and the Caribbean coast.
The best part of this area was experiencing the turtles nesting. Every year between March and October different species of turtles come to nest. Late one night we were picked up and taken to where the nesting tends to happen. We were able to watch a turtle prepare her nest and lay her eggs.
After visiting Tortuguero we made our way to La Fortuna. There are so many fun things to do here, from zip lining, hiking, river rafting and visiting a hot spring…you won’t run out of thing to do. I loved our hotel here!! It has its own natural hot springs, so after a full day of activities it was nice to go and relax. We also saw a few sloths and a lot of different monkeys here.
We ended our trip in Guanacaste for some beach time. From our hotel we were not far from Tamarindo so we spent some time visiting the area. There is a lot to do here as well, snorkel, ATV trips, surf, boating, etc.
If you get a chance to visit Costa Rica….take it!! You will not be disappointed. Costa Rica offers so many different activities and each location you travel to has the opportunity of being so unique.
